...Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School, is now in line for federal
punishment, or sanctions, after failing to raise test scores for special
education students,
according to a report released Wednesday by the
California Department of Education.

The school's poor marks in special education could force the school to offer
voluntary transfers to all students and mandatory training for teachers...

"Isn't that crazy?" said Principal Martha Munden, who said her school was
celebrating improvements on statewide tests even while facing possible
sanctions. "We're the best middle school in Oceanside. We are just shocked
(at the threat of sanctions). I am going to have to remind parents and
teachers that we made incredible gains schoolwide and that we need to work
together to improve even more."

The state and federal governments measure academic performance in
different ways. The federal government, under the No Child Left Behind Act,
expects schools to have a set percentage of students in all demographic
subgroups working at grade level...

Our daughter will be part of the first
class to attend Coastal from 1st
through 8th grade. If you want your
children to have a well rounded
education, and believe highly in
parental involvement, you will not be
disappointed! I have only positive
things to say about Coastal.

Coastal Academy: the parent
involvement, the rigorous academics,
the ability to attend classes while
homeschooling, the staff and
administration, and the ever growing
and changing program offerings. My
oldest son graduated after 6 years at
Coastal and 4 years at CAHS ...  Read

This is an absolutely amazing school! I
am so happy that we found out about
it, my kids will definitely never be going
to a "regular" public school for their
education. Coastal has the best faculty
around. The principal Mrs. Perez is so
involved with the kids. It is so
refreshing to see her outside ...  Read

The Coastal Academy has great
Music, Art and Sports programs. The
Academy offers guitar and voice, art
classes taught by Art teachers and
offers a variety of sports that include
swimming, basketball and rock
climbing. We came to Coastal from the
Encinitas School District (known as the
best.) Unfortunately, ...  Read more
